Don't get too close, 'cause he's gone now.
Don't sit too close, 'cause you love him now.
Don't let him climb into your bed;
He may not want to leave.

You're his mother now.
You rock him to sleep and
Don't let him cross the street alone.
He will grow up and leave you.
He will command your actions with his inactions.
He will love girls in ways he could never love you.
He has a past and a future, like the people before him.

He rewards you when you pull away,
He makes you scream in agony and pleasure.
Was the love worth it?
I told you not to hold his hand.
You could be sleeping through the night and
Talking to strangers. Instead,
You gaze longingly into the clock's face,
You wedge your place in the clock's arms.

He's here now;
Don't combine your space.
He will not rock you to sleep, or
Blow softly on your scraped knees.
He will only nurse on your insecurities and
Find an uneasy home at your breast.

You will never please him
For longer than 20 minutes.

When he stares longingly into your eyes, he
Doesn't see your soul, 'cause
He's looking at his childhood and
Massaging his retirement.

Don't worry; He's sleeping now.
You can stare at him as long as you dare, but
Never wake him up. You
Can't own him like a sweater, 'cause
He'll unravel at your feet.
His soul is his, as are his thoughts.
He is a person, like the people before him.
